SceneForge — Support, Backups & Privacy

SceneForge: plan your story, one beat at a time. Organize meaningful story moments, develop who, what, where, why, and how, and review the sequence as a visual storyboard on iPhone, iPad, and Mac. AI image tools are optional; you can plan and edit without using them.

Privacy: Read the SceneForge Privacy Policy for information about local storage, iCloud sync, optional AI providers, API keys, purchases, and exports.

Your first story and Unlimited Stories

Start with one free story and unlimited beats. Unlimited Stories is a one-time in-app purchase for adding more stories, including creating, duplicating, and importing additional stories. There is no subscription. Check the price displayed by the App Store for your region. Existing stories stay editable and exportable without the upgrade. Optional third-party AI services may incur separate usage fees; this purchase does not include AI credits.

Create and develop a story

  1. From My Stories, choose Create New Story. Enter a title and description, then begin blank or choose a template.
  2. Open the story and choose Add Beat. Give the beat a number or label and a summary of the moment.
  3. Fill in the useful details: Who, What, Where, Why, How, Need, Act, Fail, React, Succeed, and Scene Notes. These help you understand each beat's purpose.
  4. Save the beat and add the next moment. Use Reorder Beats to adjust the sequence.
  5. Open Storyboard to review the visual sequence. Add your own images or use optional image generation, then use the playback controls to review the flow.

The in-app Help guide includes a short first-story tutorial and detailed explanations of the settings.

Export a complete story backup

  1. Open Settings and expand Backups & Export.
  2. Choose Export Story Backup (shown as Export Backup in compact layouts).
  3. Select the story and save its .sceneforge-story.json file to Files, iCloud Drive, or another location you trust. On Mac, choose a location in the save panel.
  4. Keep a separate recent copy outside the device before a major rewrite, deleting a story, regenerating important images, or changing devices.

You can also export a story backup from the story's backup/share options. A portable backup includes the story, beat details, and saved images. It does not include API keys or restore purchase access. SceneForge does not add password protection to these JSON files, so store and share them carefully.

Import or move a story

  1. Transfer the .sceneforge-story.json backup to the receiving device using Files, iCloud Drive, AirDrop, or your preferred storage service.
  2. In SceneForge, open Settings > Backups & Export > Import Story, then choose the backup. Import Story Backup is also available while creating a story.
  3. Open the imported story and check its beats and images.

Important: A backup carrying the same story ID replaces the existing version of that story; it does not merge edits. A backup with a different ID is added as another story and may require Unlimited Stories if you already have a story. Export your current version before importing an older backup over it. Restoring a backup of the same story stays free.

iCloud sync is not an independent backup

SceneForge can synchronize story data and images through your iCloud Drive container. Check Settings > iCloud Sync on each device, use the same Apple Account, and make sure iCloud Drive has enough storage. Review sync status and use Sync Now when troubleshooting.

Changes and deletions may sync between devices. Turning sync off does not delete cloud or other-device copies. Keep independent exported backups even when sync is working. If a story appears missing, preserve copies on any device that still has the work before changing sync settings, reinstalling, or importing older files. Contact support before taking destructive recovery steps.

Export a Fountain outline

In Settings > Backups & Export, choose Export Fountain and select the story. You can also export through the story's backup/share options. The .fountain.txt file is a text outline for compatible writing tools; it is not a complete SceneForge backup and does not contain storyboard images. SceneForge plans stories in beats rather than replacing a full screenplay editor.

Getting better storyboard images

SceneForge builds image prompts from the story title, beat Summary, populated beat fields, scene notes, and visual style. Be explicit about important visible details. For example, write "A female sheriff walks into the store" rather than "The sheriff walks into the store," and reinforce the character description in Who. This guides the provider but cannot guarantee an exact or consistent result.

Configure optional image generation in Settings > Image Generation. OpenAI or Gemini requests use your provider key and send prompt content to that service. Apple Image Playground and on-device enhancement depend on compatible hardware and Apple's availability rules. Review provider terms and fees before sending content. Back up an image you want to keep before regenerating it, because regeneration replaces the beat's current image.

Restore an upgrade purchase

Open Settings > Unlimited Stories & Restore Purchases, then choose Restore Purchases using the App Store account that made the purchase. Restore Purchases restores the unlock, not your story files. Use Import Story with a story backup to recover or move writing and images. If the price cannot load or a purchase is pending, avoid repeated purchases; check the connection and App Store account and try restoring first.

Contact SceneForge support

Email 3pigproductions@gmail.com. Include your device model, operating-system version, SceneForge version and build, what you expected, the steps that caused the issue, and any exact error message. Screenshots can help; remove private information first.

Do not send API keys, passwords, payment details, or your full story library. For saving, sync, or import problems, export an independent backup before attempting recovery. Only share files or diagnostics after reviewing what they contain.
